Hansgrohe EcoSmart Technology
Hansgrohe have an established history as a world leader in energy and resource saving technology. These technologies range from the solar tower which powers the manufacturing plant to the Pontos grey water recycling system.
As a new sustainability measure, Hansgrohe have introduced the EcoSmart technology. The special aerator integrated into the spout of the mixer enriches the water with air. This not only lowers the water consumption of the mixer by about 50% by maintaining a steady flow of 7.2 litres per minute. The Air Technology of Hansgrohe infuses the water with air, giving a more voluminous flow even at a lower consumption rate. This is achieved by the introduction of a precision formed Elastomer, the shape of which changes to moderate the flow of water to a constant level.

The same EcoSmart Technology can be applied to shower heads and in the EcoSmart handshower meaning it becomes possible to save 50% of water consumption whilst showering. This saves not only water, but energy as well due to a lower consumption of hot water and the energy input for water heating.
The EcoSmart flow reduction works due to the flexibility of the Elastomer O Ring. When the pressure in the shower head increases, the Control Star presses into the Elastomer, which expands, reducing flow. When pressure is low, the O Ring shrinks, increasing internal pressure, and maintaining a higher flow throughout the system.
